There is no other option for this laughable disgrace than a total cancellation.

In fact, there are only three absolute certainties in this life:

1) The sun will rise in the east;

2) July 4th will occur every year on… July 4th; and

3) Nickmom will be shut down.

Such a complete creative and business abomination cannot possibly survive.

The tombstone graphic here may be a bit premature but it’s guaranteed to be accurate.

So, for the readers who have no idea what I’m talking about – what is this Nickmom that is almost universally hated by parents (mostly Moms)?

Nickmom is a primetime adult-skewing programming block (airing on the same channel as Nick Junior) designed for exhausted moms looking for a laugh or some edgier entertainment after the kids go to bed.

What’s wrong with that, Jill?

What do you have against exhausted moms looking for a laugh?

Absolutely nothing. I’m a proud exhausted mom myself who loves HBO.

But when you make a corporate decision to put on a programming block of comedians talking about sex and cocktails, shows called “Moms Night Out,” etc. etc. right after “Dora The Explorer” signs off, you clearly do not understand how the media landscape works.

Nickmom starts airing at 4pm in Hawaii for God’s sake! And 7PM in California (which is definitely before my daughter’s bedtime).

The biggest problem I have with Nickmom is that it is a stupid idea badly executed.

And the ratings are bearing that out as noted by the Wall Street Journal (this is becoming a national story) – 74% decline in two weeks.

There is also a website that has been launched by angry parents – CancelNickMom.com.

Hey Viacom – are you hearing any of this?

People hate it. Drop it. Bring back “Bubble Guppies!”

I always wonder how these epic fails in business happen. This one is stunning.

Nickmom is an idea obviously hatched by out-of-touch corporate executives who think whatever they throw up on the screen (‘throw up’ being key words) will be gobbled up by the masses. They probably imagined their in-boxs filling up with “Thank yous” from weary, under-entertained moms from around the country.

They probably sat there at lunchtime brain-storming sessions falling off their seats with laughter when the suggestion for a tagline came up… “What about ‘Motherfunny’?”  “‘Motherfunny’? Oh, my God, that is fucking hilarious! It sounds like “mother fucker” but it’s actually “motherfunny!”

The coldcuts, fruit plates and cookie platters just sit there as middle-aged men (and a lucky female or two including the female VP in charge of Nickmom) howl with laughter at how awesome they are.

And then a branding exec chimes in: “But it’s perfect for what we’re trying to accomplish. We’re making mothers laugh.”

Another exec: “And no one needs laughs more than mothers!”

A marketing exec chimes in to make it all relevant: “And ‘motherfunny’ gives it that edge we’re looking for. These aren’t your father’s mothers anymore. Advertisers are going to eat this shit up!”

I’m not going to pound the point anymore and this isn’t a cry from a concerned parent who is worried about the moral fabric of our country – I know how to keep bad stuff away from my daughter, thank you.

But, face it, this is a horrible idea and it needs to killed.

And… it will be. Soon. Guaranteed.

We gave up the TV in 1991 when our first child was 2. We haven’t had one since.

We do stream entertainment of our choice. Our sons are both in college, one an engineering student and the other a 2nd year medical student. Neither has a TV in their apartment. Both doing well. Both well informed and articulate. Imagine my surprise.

You are 100% correct. The current management at Viacom is out of touch, out for the next buck, and totally lacking in common sense, talent, or standards. They deserve to fail.

My 4yr old questions everything and my 2yr old repeats everything. I had no idea that NickMom was going to start at 7pm, the advertisement said it would be 10pm, I was in the kitchen washing the dishes and my 4yr old walks in and pointed to my lower section and asked if that was my “beaver”. Guessing by the horror on my face my 2yr old thought that was something funny and began to sing “mami is a beaver, mami is a beaver” when I finally regained my breath and asked where he heard that word, he replied “a lady on tv” sure enough NickMom was on and what seems to be a homemade reality tv program two ladies were having a blast talking about their sex life.

I have to go on the record and say I have no problem with women talking about sex. However, I do have a problem when it comes into my boys channel for which I pay a premium price for.

There have been an overwhelming amount of complaints posted on our website in the last 24 hours!

Putting NickMom on NickJr was a horrible idea. The women are not even funny. Watching a bunch of selfish women complain about how much they hate their husbands, their kids, and the duties of motherhood is NOT “winding down at the end of the day.” It is obnoxious.

    • Natalia Perez · October 15, 2012

I was going to write a complaint but no need, Tina T said it beautifully. Thank you for stating my very thought.

I will add that what really annoyed me was the commercials in between the kid shows “we know you can’t wait for your kids to go to bed!” Why would you tell my kids that Nick/telecom? Also Nick has gone far bellow our standards in our home and for the last nearly yr we’ve been Sprout & Disney Jr fans.

It’s like garbage TV and what’s worse, it’s being aimed at moms specifically, like we have time for garbage. I don’t really care one way or the other though, because I won’t watch it and my 3 year old daughter is in bed by about 8. But if I lived on the west coast, yeah, I’d be ticked about it. My daughter doesn’t watch much TV to begin with, but we have a little routine every night consisting of dinner, arts and crafts time, bath followed by about 20 minutes of TV (always Nick Jr) and then story and bed. Yes, I know it’s a long routine, but it settles her down for the night and the TV is part of it. True, I could just show something that i recorded on the DVR, but maybe thats not the case for everybody else. Seriously, Nick Jr needs to reevaluate this. It’s just dumb and a waste of everyone’s time.

I am glad to see others in the fight to get rid of Nickmom. nickjr was the best tb channel on until recently. All safe educational cartoons and no commercials. That was a dream. Now it is a nightmare. Commercials and filth by nighttime. Not to mention sad little kids that completely don’t understand why I won’t put their toons on. What kind of company does this??

  8. Tina · October 15, 2012

This content is so inappropriate for a preschool channel. We’ve switched to Disney Jr. and Sprout as our bedtime channel. We were a faithful NickJr. family but we’ve been happy with the programming on the other channels. Nick Jr is making all the wrong moves.

  9. Vicki · October 15, 2012

Ohhhh….thank you, Jill! If I didn’t think it would show up on NickMomstrosity some night, I’d just kiss ya 😛

  10. paul haynes · October 15, 2012

Pedophile jokes and poking fun at disabled children belong on a preschool network? What deluded and out of touch idiot greenlit that?

  11. Chalyn Coleman · October 15, 2012

I wasa loyal Nick Jr customer for years, never even bothered to give Disney Jr the time of day. My son had the toys, books, we even went to a few of the shows tours in our area. However, as of October 1st 7:15pm Nick Jr. as well as all other Nick channels have been blocked in my house. Why, out of all the channels that Viacom owns 5 of which being Nick Channels, would they choose their PreSchool channel to put programs with profanity, sexual content, extreme adult content, anti dad and anti-children sentiment on. The majority of the themes that these women talk about aren’t even related to women with toddlers, which is who would be watching Nick Jr in the first place, it’s more so “humor”, and I use this term on;y for lack of a better term, about teenagers. But the most obscene part of this whole travesty is that they didn’t even bother to take into account timezones. This crap comes on at 7pm on the west coast not 10pm! And even worse 4pm in Hawaii. My son is not in bed at 7pm, in fact that is the majority of childrens tv time. Did they even stop to consider that most parents are getting home from work around 6pm and then after having dinner they allow their children to have a little tv time of appropiate programming. But now they have taken that away. Stop the insanity and Move NickMom to another channel immediately, unless you want to see how much lower your ratings will sink. I’m sure the 74% drop in ratings was just the tip of the iceberg!

  12. Christina · October 15, 2012

Too late…we’ve already switched to Disney!

I agree! This Nick Mom was a HORRIBLE decision all the way around! I walked into my sons room at 10 15pm and thankfully he was asleep bc NickMom was on his tv, and of all channels it was on NickJr which used to be the only channel my child was allowed to watch! Needless to say…this and all other Nick channels have been blocked and he will be watching DVDs and the oldschool VHS of the more appropriate any time of day or night tv shows! The “Nick Moms” have hundreds of other comedy chanells or any other channels they can find on ADULT TV without having to invade our preschool and toddlers channels with suchabsolute trash! This is an educational channel that is NOT teaching our kids appropriate material! This needs to be removed and frankly I feel that the “decision makers” who put this show on the air should not have a job! There are people who would LOVE to be decision makers that would make sure that these EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS would STAY EDUCATIONAL DAY AND NIGHT!

  15. Timothy Martin · October 15, 2012

I totally agree its garbage television. I think nick jr went downhill even before when they got rid of the moose a moose character. My Son actually learned a lot watching then. What in the world were they thinking. Who knows but yes this channel had also been taken off the watch list in our home and we now let the kids watch Disney jr instead. I saw a quick clip of that show and the moms were talking to their teenage boys about masterbation and having sex, why would that be ok every on a children’s channel terrible decision they made with this one.
