A Flower Poked Through The Snow...

snow flower.jpgA flower poked through the snow and frozen earth on my front lawn last week.  It may sound pretty stupid to all you idiots out there that don't understand metaphors but that flower is my story.

Every Goddamned day of my life I've been nothing more than a daisy trying to poke my head through the frozen tundra of life.  I've been covered in mud, blood, snow, piss, rat droppings, whiskey, hookers and more blood.  But I've always found a way to poke my head out of all that crap.

I stared at that flower through breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Mrs. Aldrich watched television while I stared at that flower, thinking about Matty Godowski, a crazy Pole from Chicago that taught me how to eat a pair of socks to sustain my life while waiting for supplies in Korea.  Even us flowers occassionally need a little help getting above that last layer of dirt.

I thought about Dougy Treval - a professional bowler from East Lancing who lost his right arm as a military advisor in Spain.  When he returned, he taught himself to bowl left handed and one time scored a 78!

I thought about Frederick of Hollywood and wondered how the hell a man could become the most powerful person in women's underwear.

I thought about Jesus and how much he had to overcome to get his head out of the dirt.

I thought about D-Day, Iwo Gima, Sicily and The Bulge.

I thought about more on this one day than I had over the last twenty year combined.

Not once did I think about THOSE DAMN KIDS - until Snotty Scotty came along and stepped on my flower.

I'll talk at you next week...
