Seriously, Fox News?
Seriously, Drudge Report (see headline below)?
Seriously, Rupert Murdoch (Tweeted: Petraeus resignation. Timing, everything suspicious)
So General Petraeus had “an affair” (meaning you don’t believe he had an affair) which caused him to leave the CIA in disgrace?
As much as you would like it to happen, something does not become a scandal before the facts are known – not that that has ever stopped you before.
What IS a scandal is that Fox News and Drudge Report keep trying to create scandals that bring down the President.
I’m sorry but using quote marks to illustrate your non-belief of the story before the facts come out is journalism at its crappiest.
Newsflash to Fox News and company – Your Polls Were Wrong, Barack Obama Is President – suck it up, stop whining and move on.
Here are some of the headlines from high profile news sources after today’s surprising announcement that David Petraeus has resigned as CIA Director following an admission to an extramarital affair:
Yes, Fox News, you might be onto something – David Petraeus is obviously saying he cheated on his wife of 37 years and is throwing his long career and future down the toilet just to cover up for the President’s mistakes in Benghazi.
Get Mitt Romney and Karl Rove on the phone – tell them there is still chance! Ohio is back in play!
Jill Kennedy – OnMedea
Stuff like this just doesn’t happen overnight or all of a sudden. What I’m thinking is Petraeus and the CIA weren’t a good fit, so that was one motivation. Another is that Petraeus’ infidelity was probably known about at least a week ago – privately – but his resignation was held off until after the election for what should be obvious reasons.
As for the Benghazi aspect, the GOPers can still subpoena Petraeus…and he won’t be able to tell them anything more than what they already know. Another motivation may be for Petraeus to ‘get out while the gettin’s good’ and either avoid a (deserved or undeserved) scapegoating at the hands of the Republicans or just to move on to the next thing like he’s done throughout his career.
I have a hard time imagining Petraeus publicly admitting an extramarital affair, thereby seriously hurting both his wife and the other woman (apparently his biographer), just so he could move on to the next thing. This will seriously damage any future political opportunities he may have had with the Republican party.
If he had an affair, why not resign immediately? Oh, yeah! There was an election. I’m not buying this one bit. I agree with Fox questioning the reason with quotation marks.
The Intel Community has all ready been thrown under the bus by this administration. And the CIA was up to its eyeballs in the Benghazi attack. General, please, for the honor of the men who died and the sakes of their families, please, step up and tell the truth about who knew what and when and what they did.
So you really believe that a Republican military hero is destroying the public reputations of his wife and his biographer just to cover Obama’s tracks? Really?
I totaly agree Jill. This is ridiculous! I voted for Romney but for anyone to state that Gen Petraeus made up the affair to leave the CIA is the dumbest thing i have ever heard except the announcement that Obama had been re-elected!
Why would he have to be “covering” for the President? Maybe he is getting out in front of a liability so he CAN tell all regarding Benghazi!
Why would he have to be “covering” for the President? Maybe he is getting out in front of a liability so he CAN tell all regarding Benghazi…..
To the people who wonder why this is a big deal – I agree that it shouldn’t be, but in the CIA extramarital affairs are frowned upon and the General could not stay as the head of the CIA after breaking one its basic tenets. He lost his credibility as its leader.
I hope the Petraeus family can figure this out and put it behind them. The General could have become a compelling Presidential candidate some day.
If the director of the CIA couldn’t cover up an affair then there is no hope for humanity.
Why didn’t Clinton resign for the same reason?
So your job includes having innocent people tortured and killed and that is all well and good. But having sex outside of marriage is a more serious offense. Welcome to America.
I don’t care what you say, Jill, the timing is definitely interesting.
It only took another day for Fox and Drudge to get a new scandal. They must be thinking ‘Thank God’ we have something to do.
A CIA agent apologizing for adultery is like a cannibal apologizing for bad breath.
Good to see our bird brained Teabag friends are still OBSESSING over goofy conspiracy theories instead of looking in the mirror and reflecting on why they just got creamed in the election.
Good luck with that, losers.
Here’s the problem with Gen. Petraeus having an “extramarital affair”: It leaves him open to blackmail. He did the right thing by eliminating that threat.
A highly decorated General, still following West Point Honor Code refuses to perjure himself in a Congressional inquiry over the Benghazi coverup. Cowards die a thousand deaths King Hussein Obama…this man ended his career like this to save your worthless hide.
So you’re running with the theory that Petraeus is willing to destroy his own personal life and political reputation in order to “save Obama’s hide”? Are you aware that the election already happened? Are you aware that Petraeus can still be subpoenaed for Benghazi if Congress wants to question him? Are you aware that Petraeus’s name has been in the hat as a REPUBLICAN presidential candidate?
This just proves the anti-muslim video was a false flag operation that had significant blowback and now Betray-Us and Betray-his-wife has fallen on his sword. He’ll get a fat pension and play gold like all government goons do.
A great example of the hypocracy that exists in all things political…..
