Xfinity - R.I.P.
Yesterday, I told Comcast to dump Fancast and embrace Hulu.
Today, we learn that Comcast has decided to change the name of Fancast to FancastXfinity or just Xfinity.
Horrible name.
No one will use it.
Xfinity is dead.
As I said yesterday to Comcast (and say again today), dump Fancast (Xfinity) and embrace Hulu. You might as well get some benefit from this disastrous acquisition of NBC Universal.
All other confusing video watching sites owned by Comcast (currently running or in development) must be destroyed.
While on the subject of Comcast NBC Universal, my boss, Khan Manka, Jr., had a truly bizarre conversation with Comcast CEO Brian Roberts last night. I'm still trying to make sense of it. Check it out here.

Xfinity is a joke name, right? That's really horrible.
Xfinity, I really never knew ye. Or ever heard of ye.
Au contrair, my freaky friends at Manka Brothers. Xfinity is here to stay. You may want to change that tombstone and put 2009 - Infinity!
Let's hope Comcast doesn't destroy a television network like they have the very idea of customer service. Ooops, too late already.
You're kidding right? Comcast has leverage in getting content that Hulu does not have. I love how all of you bloggers act like you are telling "big media" something when you have no idea how the industry, rights or politics work.
Here is some advice: stick to topics you actually understand.
Chris,
What leverage does Comcast have that Hulu doesn't? Hulu is backed by 3 major studios (yes, they don't quite want to give it all up for ad-based business model - but still 3 major studios).
Just face it, Xfinity is a terrible name and you're stuck defending for whatever reason. Perhaps you're real email is Chris@xfinity.com
Either way, you're incorrect in stating that I have no idea how the industry works. In six months I'll still be here. Xfinity will not (unless you count the pieces that remain after it either merges with Hulu or folds into Hulu).
I'm not sure I understand why it's going to die. I'm a Comcast customer, six months from now I'll still be a Comcast customer. I'm in a major US city and I can get by broadband from Comcast or AT&T, and Comcast is much, much faster. Make no mistake, I'm not a fan of Comcast, but when is anyone ever happy with their utility providers?
Ed, it's not going to die as an idea - it's going to die as a horrible marketing attempt to get you to sign up to just another service. Of course we'll be consuming media online in a form similar to Xfinity.
My complaint and why I killed it is because of all the consumer confusion created by launching crazy new services that really have no chance of taking hold. I say incorporate the content offerings of Xfinity into an already proven and easy to use service like Hulu. You can still have premium content available to subscribes only - just build it into a service that already works.
fancast has been around for 5 years just as long as hulu! They just want to retain thier video subs
XFinity - Way awesome. You all should try it. Oops I forgot you have Dish. LOL. Yeah only us cable subscriber can get premium channel Video Ondemand anywhere in the world with internet access as if we were home. WOOT. Go go Comcast and Xfinity!
Hi JK!
Xfinity is here to stay, sorry u don`t like the name. I work in the cable industry and you will be hearing A LOT from Xfinty, it is much more than you could ever imagine.
Did you like the comcasttown.com ads? Lot of people did, others didn't.
Whenever HULU brings HBO, Cinemax, Showtime or Starz! content please let us know.
Please visit www.Xfnity.com soon!

Hi Charlie,
Unless you came up with the name, Charlie, there is no way you like the name either. I'm sure Xfinity has a great lineup of programming. Those are some fantastic cable channels you mention. All I'm saying is, instead of all the 'we're changing the world' bravado, how about some common sense and humility. No one knows what will work. Like whenever Ben Silverman or Jeff Zucker does anything, when you do it with that kind of "assholed-ness" you must be called on it.
Hulu is a superior platform and, instead of bashing your future sister company, embrace them for their success and find a way to build Hulu into the "TV Everywhere" platform.
JK
its not another service its from a 3rd party vendor thats been out for 3 months in washington its higher internet speeds more ONDemand and well the same thing for voice but its free it comes in automatically as in the techno platform DOCIS 3.0 wich is the new legacy nodes meanting twice the size of computing capacity
Jill you look like you are an aging woman trying to be a teenager....Your 40 plus right? Be your age and rejoice!!! As for your subject.... Sounds like Manka was dissed.... It sounds from reading this that you folks are truly amatuers. What's worse is your bitterness.... Maybe it's Manka that's tumbling..... And talk about a lousy name... "King Khan" What a histerical name... WOW!!! Now that's inventive... Let's see.... How about a band called JFKFC... at least that has a shot. King Khan what a joke!
Rob, it would be much less expensive if I was trying to be a teenager. Teenager's don't (normally) pay $1,000 to get collagen in their lips and buy $800 shoes.
As for King Khan, that was a failed lounge band from the 1970s. XFinity is a new (lame) name thought up by (supposed) professionals. But don't worry, Rob, after the name change, you won't be working for Xfinity much longer.
JK
Well thanks!!!! I knew I was right! You are trying to be younger than you are. Why would you buy something to make your lips look younger and fuller to simulate fertility....You just don't need to do that. People should accept you for who you are.As for Xfinity, who cares. I do not work for them I am a musician...... As I wrote to Khan.... Artist live art others live through our art or sell it.... As for your spending habits, That is entirely your choice but I will say this.... I wouldn't go back in time to relive my youth.... I have already done that I enjoy each and every new year with more wisdom, more refinement with my instrument.... The possibilities are endless.... Think of who you could have helped with that $1000.00. My teacher once told me "less is more" He is correct....
Take care,
Rob
Actually Jill You do look great!!!! As far as the name xfinity.... Yes it's dumb... so are a lot of company names.... Manka Bros lacks imagination....Don't you think? There is X-box and X-games and a bunch of things with "x" in it.... I personally think it is stupid. Hulu is no better. How about Dippity do right and the do diddie wrong daddies. I still like JFKFC.
Rob
Thanks, Rob. Glad you don't work for Xfinity. You have a better chance of making as a musician than working for that company.
As for the Manka bros. name - it's a family name, so what can they do? It would be like saying Warner Bros. is a stupid name. Manka Bros. has been around for 90 years. You can't change your family.
Hulu is a better name (though I must admit I had my doubts about that one in the beginning). They proved me wrong.
JK
uummm... why does it show an Hulu logo when viewing a show on Fancast Xfinity beta? both NBC?
Tee Hee Hee..... Fools
Like your page, good reading, thanks.
I have heard a lot about cable deregulation but my cable internet provider claims I can only use them. Is this true or can I use some other provider?
The name does sound like a joke to me, until I found out that they were serious. Just because they are changing their name to Xfinity, doesn’t mean the service is changing. I can understand re-branding and the marketing gimmick, but they will always be just plain old Comcast with poor customer service to me. At DISH Network we haven’t changed our name and still have lower prices on our programming than Comcast. As a DISH Network customer and employee I switched from Comcast to DISH, and have never been happier with my pay TV service.
