Arrow – Season 1 – Episode 1 – “Pilot”

Last night, The CW aired the greatest show in the history of television.
“Arrow” (previously known in boring comic book form as “The Green Arrow”), to put it simply, has relegated Superman, Batman, Spider-man, all of the Avengers, all of the X-Men, etc. etc. etc., every fucking superhero in the known universe to fucking nothingness.
Those characters are dead to me now. And they are all “Arrow”‘s little bitches.
If you’re a geek-dork and love comic book movies and shows, there is only one character necessary to fill your nerdy cup.
Vidar was expecting something shitty. Really really “CW-like” shitty.
But this show is not shit.
It is the filet mignon you eat before your body processes it into shit. The shit that comes out your ass now is Spider-man (in comparison to the greatest of “Arrow”).
EPISODE 1 “PILOT” Synopsis (courtesy of IMDB.com with Vidar interjections):
After a violet shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific.
When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira (yeah, right), much-beloved sister Thea (nicknamed Speedy – why because she snorts a lot of cocaine?), and best friend Tommy (with friends like Tommy who needs fucking friends), welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. (You think?)
While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the spoiled brat he was as a boy. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance.
(Good luck there – he was banging her sister, Sarah, on the yacht that sunk which started this whole mess. Sarah died [though that was left wide open with no body discovered – she’ll be back]. Forgiveness of Oliver might be a problem for Laurel and her dad – Detective Lance Quince.)
As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow (fuck yeah!) – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory.
By day, Oliver plays the role of the wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle (seems like a decent guy but there’s something up with him – ‘don’t trust’ alert!), while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness.
However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. (Dude also doesn’t care much for Oliver. Oliver is, after all, somewhat responsible for his daughter’s death in the shipwreck.)
Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on. (She’s going to turn out to be some sort of hardcore beyatch that no one wants to cross.)
FINAL THOUGHTS
Holy fucking shit, this is a great show! The Nobel Prize for Literature was awarded today to some guy in China.
Vidar says “BULLSHIT!” The Noble Prize should have been awarded to the Pilot Episode of “Arrow”!
The cast is perfect. The action, clothes, special effects, hair and even make-up is perfect times six. The story is better than any shit you’ve ever loved before.
No platitudes, just truth.

This show was waaaay better than I expected.It frankly looked terrible in the preview.
Arrow Does Rock, have you ever read Mo Yan (the winner of Nobel Prize), Arrow is so much better. Really.
I wasn’t sold on the idea of yet another comic book remake for CW, but I happened to catch this last night and it was really excellent! I’m not familiar at all with the source material, but I love the grittier Batman Begins feel and the whole island survival plot is reminiscent of those good kids books like Hatchet and The Cay– in the best way.
One quibble though- So the Green Arrow guy learned complex computer espionage and hacking skills while on a deserted island? WTF was up with that fancy hacking arrow?
Im certainly on a different page than you vidar. I have mixed feelings about the pilot- liked few scenes,hated others
1) hated that it copied Batman Begins
2) really, NO ONE noticed( not cops or Hunt’s staff) that there was arrow on wall behind desk
and then he ask himself how did he managed to steal 40$ million dollars from him
3) they give us more “realistic” Arrow and what we get is skinny bitches and guys pumped on stereoids
4) driving in car and after he jumps out ( yeah right, I believe that one (sarcasm here)), his guard/driver looks puzzled and checks if he is still in the car or if he somehow got in drivers seat…LOL
5) more “realistic” Arrow and no one will figure out that Ollie is behind mask,with him spraying/painting green line over his eyes( over and over again,since he needs to take it off fast,when he needs to be Ollie again)….at least to have a mask is more realistic and practical,than to spray/paint “mask”…yeah hood hides part of his face,but at least with mask I believe it is harder to recognize someone
Nitpicking, man. The show is awesome.
I’m going over to watch the stream of it now. The trailers that ran on TV looked amazing. Hopefully it will live up to those.

You know, you’re a prime example of When Geeks Get Stupidly Pissy For No Goddamn Good Reason. And I do mean “stupidly”.
Okay, so you’re not interested in it. That’s fine. Nobody says you have to be; that’s the beauty of having a jillian channels plus the internet, you can always find something more to your taste (assuming you like ANYTHING, anyway, which I have to wonder if you do). And you know, maybe you’re right about the relative “boring” nature of the character and the writer of this review is wrong – I wouldn’t know, I haven’t seen it yet myself, so I don’t know if I agree with either of these extreme points of view, or even the GASP middle ground view of “I liked it, but I like other things better”, which, honestly is how I am expecting to react.
But “this show won’t last”? Did you fail Reading Comprehension? This show literally is the HIGHEST RATED premiere for the CW in the last THREE YEARS.
Considering this same channel already kept Smallville hanging around for nine years (and considering everything I’ve heard elsewhere indicates this show is better than Smallville)? I don’t think they’re going to kill it anytime soon.
This show WILL last, at least for the season – on an itty bitty network like the CW, something that starts off to that big of a start compared to EVERYTHING they have done for the PAST THREE YEARS? That’s not dying, not for at least the season. And it’s not a fucking crime for it to be successful just because you aren’t interested in it yourself.
Jesus. It’s like just because it’s the internet, there’s no such thing as a “moderate” position.
I love geeky things, but sometimes it’s an effort not to feel like everybody else who does, it’s a fucking entitled asshole.

I love how some people don’t like this. To me this is how GA is meant to be. He doesn’t have SM/CL’s morals. This show isn’t boring, it has multiple character arc’s, the flash backs are amazing, the glimpses we have had of Olivers training with Wilson on the island have been awesome. If i had any issues with it, it wold be his amazing computer skills. Felicity Smoak should’ve been introduced at the start as a member of his team. Other than that the show is incredible.
