I thought Argo was great and it was because of Ben Affleck, leaving him out of the best director category is a shame on the academy.
I don’t understand how a film can get nominated for best picture and yet at the same time the director of said film can be passed over for a nomination….
Reminder: Both ‘Batman Begins’ and ‘The Dark Knight’ were nominated for at least one of the categories.
That they would snub Christopher Nolan and his crowning achievement- “The Dark Knight Rises”- is absurd.

Dark Knight Rises was a rehash of the superior Dark Knight. TDK should have been nominated 3 years ago – not this year.
If TDKR should have gotten any nomination, it should have been for Hans Zimmer’s score. I honestly feel like the Oscars will shun anything mainstream just to show the general public how “mature” and “sophisticated” they are, even though it just makes them look pretentious.
I, for one, won’t be watching this year. Good luck to Django and Argo.

Both the Globes and Oscars had enough intelligence to see past all the hype generated by the WB promo machine. Rises sucked as a comic-book movie and was a incoherent mess as a movie.

Agrreed Khan! Ang Lee, Joaquin Phoenix, Christoph Waltz, Bradley Cooper, Hugh Jackman, Jackie Weaver, Naomi Watts, Amy Adams, and Quvenzhané Wallis I was extremely pleased to see nominated here. I’m glad Life of Pi stacked up a shipload of nominations. But Kathryn Bigelow, Ben Afflect, and Quentin Tarantino were screwed. I’m surprised The Dark Knight Rises didn’t grab a nomination for anything, though not exactly sad as I thought it was a flawed.
What are Hollywood trying to tell PTA here? How can the three main players be nominated but the director is not? Did the actors direct themselves? I may sound a little paranoid and maybe they just didn’t like the film itself, but this is coming across as almost purposeful…
Anyways, I adore ‘Amour’, so it is very pleasing to see it get so much recognition. Hopefully, Haneke wins and goes on a 5 minute rant dissecting the celebrity culture of award ceremonies, maybe even introducing a short movie that is nothing more than a silent frame of a camera looking out at the audience.
I am organizing a boycott of the Oscars and the Super Bowl and the Emmys and everything else that people like to watch until there is justice. Mankas crappy movies deserve to be recognized. Perhaps a march on Hollywood.

I’m with you kahn! The Oscars are a joke. This should be obvious from the existence of “Oscar campaigns” by studio bosses. And we all know “The Hurt Locker” wasn’t the best picture in the year it won over Avatar. Then there was the Oscars’ failure to award Best Picture to the truly ground-breaking “Brokeback Mountain,” while repeatedly honoring formulaic Clint Eastwood pictures. And how many times does everyone in the business know who is going to win because it is that actor’s “time,” or because everyone knows it is “time” to honor an actor of some particular race or background? I’m not saying the Oscars are rigged, exactly, but certainly they do not involve a fair appraisal of the novelty or quality of movies or actors.
Spielberg movies always make the list no matter how crummy they are.

I wish I had time to “echo” this with my own comments…I might not have put it as “eloquently” as Khan has…but, yeah, I would have to AGREE! 🙂
(there are some “formulas” that can be applied as to HOW they make their “picks”, but if you use them, then you would be “selling out” to them…)
I think all of these awards are absolutely ridiculous!! During this season there is award show after award show. Talk about a bunch of self important morons! They feel like they need to be constantly awarded for memorizing lines.
It wouldn’t be so bad if their was a single award show but it’s gotten quite ridiculous. We have to endure month after month of another award. Give me a break already. Instead of patting yourselves on the back constantly why not take all that money that is being P!ssed away on these shows and do things for all the many many people sufferingin this country.
If I was one of you I’d feel a whole lot better knowing I made other people’s lives better than just congratulating myself on what a great job I did making believe I was someone else!
Couldn’t agree more Joe Stecco. They’ve hardly had a chance to make another load of crap when the next round of back-slapping arrives. How they sleep at night earning such ridiculous sums of money for doing nothing more than repeating other people’s work is beyond me.

Ummm… I looked at your slate… really terrible sounding movies. I haven’t heard of one of them. Not one of those movies deserve a nomination.
Yes, as usual these awards are a joke… The true best movie rarely wins… Usually an undeserving movie gets multiple votes and wins because the academy wants to make it seem like they are more sophisticated than the general public.
My vote goes to Piranha 3D – or anything by manka. Somebody has to get those people out of their fucking shell. HWood is such bullshit.
It hasn’t been mentioned here yet, but I am really upset that The Perks of Being A Wallflower was snubbed in the Best Adapted Screenplay category! Seriously. If you have seen the film, you would know how worthy it is. As for the Oscars snubbing anything mainstream (e.g. TDKR), au contraire I think they are TOO mainstream. Independent films don’t stand a chance.

I don’t think anyone got snubbed. It was a very good year for movies. Which of the nominees didn’t deserve their nomination? You have to say who is undeserving before there can be a snub. Looking at Manka brothers 2012 movie slate, they certainly didn’t deserve a nomination no matter what the chairman says.

Best Picture should have certainly included “The Perks Of Being A Wallflower” as a wild card; and perhaps even “The Hobbit” — set design and makeup was not the only thing great about that movie.
…And don’t even get me started about the worst cast of nominees for Best Director! Affleck, Hooper, Bigelow, AND Tarantino — ALL of their movies are nominated for Best Picture and yet somehow ALL of them wind up snubbed? Seriously, Oscar! How in the flying F* do you let that happen!? That’s like saying, “Yeah, the films were good, but you four didn’t direct as greatly as David Russell…Sorry Ben.”
Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor should have included Foxx and DiCaprio, and Jackson, respectively; as well, Affleck should have been nominated for his acting role in Argo.
All wrong…ALL WRONG! The way they have this set up is absolutely ridiculous. I mean, Ben Affleck of all the people to snub. I thought last year was bad…This year’s nominees really PMO! I hate how the Academy has in recent years seemingly had this mindset to snub the more favorable film for all intents to “diversify” the field by including the lesser known film of which the audience has never even heard of, like for instance, “The Master,” “The Sessions,” “The Impossible,” and “Beasts Of The Southern Wild.” I won’t comment on quality; I’ll just leave it at that. Then there is “Silver Linings Playbook” which I am sure is a fine film, but just looks like it’s one of those average films. I just don’t understand how a film like that has as many nominations as “Les Miserables” (eight); and more nominations than “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Django Unchained,” and “Argo”…It’s sad to see how political the Academy has become. Just sad.
If you haven’t yet, check out Peter Travers outdoing himself with a massive rant on how Bigelow’s snub just proves the Academy’s sexism. “Sure, we gave it to a woman once, we never have to nominate her again.” Pretty nuts even by his standards.

These days, everything is about politics. I am not at all impressed by the way these awarding bodies have handled the whole nominating process. However, I still enjoy my movies and I personally don’t care whatever they think for as long as I like a certain film, then that is enough for me.
